As a woman, your fertility spans a significant portion of your life. Naturally, you seek control over your reproductive health, allowing you the freedom to choose when to conceive. Many women opt for contraception to gain a sense of control over their menstrual cycles or to alleviate specific female symptoms.
As midwives, our expertise lies in understanding the intricacies of the female body. It's only natural that we extend our support to include guidance on contraception—assisting with selection, prescription, and even placement when necessary. Recognising that every woman's body is unique, and each individual's preferences vary, we encourage open discussions to explore the array of contraceptive options available. Whether you're a young woman at 16, far from considering motherhood, a new mother navigating postpartum choices, or someone who has decided not to have children (after all), our practicewelcomes you with open arms.
During the final stages of pregnancy and during your last maternity visit, we take the time to explore different contraceptive options with you. Together, we discuss your preferences, expectations, and any medical considerations, providing clear and honest information. Our aim is to empower you to make an informed choice.

For those planning to conceive, initiating a regimen of multivitamins containing folic acid (Folate), vitamin B12, vitamin D, and vitamin C immediately after contraceptive removal is beneficial. Additionally, we recommend the use of Omega 3 supplements for individuals who do not consume fish or follow a vegetarian/vegan diet.
At our practice location in Almere Haven, we offer multivitamins, vitamin D, magnesium, and omega-3 supplements for purchase. Feel free to visit us for more information or to inquire about our products.

There are two types: the hormonal IUD and the copper IUD. The hormonal IUD contains progestogen, which is gradually released to the uterine wall. The amount of hormone in your blood is lower than with other hormonal contraceptive methods. The hormonal IUD can remain effective for 5 to 8 years, depending on the type and purpose of use. The Copper IUD, unlike the hormonal IUD, the copper IUD contains no hormones, making it suitable for those who cannot or do not want to use hormonal contraception. The copper IUD can protect against pregnancy for up to 5 to 10 years.
Yes, we can also remove your IUD or hormone rod (Implanon).
