Centering Pregnancy

Centering Pregnancy is a form of midwifery care delivered in a group setting. Each session includes an individual medical check-up, followed by an interactive group discussion where knowledge and experiences are shared.

In addition to your standard medical check-ups, Centering provides extra support through group sessions. These sessions bring together at least 8 to at most 12 pregnant individuals to discuss topics and information tailored to the needs of the group. A midwife, and occasionally two, facilitates the discussions, ensuring that the information shared is practical, relevant, and applicable to your pregnancy journey.

If you join Centering, the sessions will take place on Wednesday mornings from 10 am to 12 pm. Initially, the sessions are held every four weeks, and as you approach the end of your pregnancy, they will occur every two weeks. You are entitled to time off during work hours for the Centering sessions (pregnancy check-ups), so you can discuss this in advance with your employer or make arrangements for childcare if needed.

Benefits of Centering Pregnancy:

  • You will connect with other women who are at a similar stage in their pregnancy.
  • You will receive 17 additional hours of care compared to individual appointments.
  • You will have more time to ask questions and address any concerns.
  • You will share experiences and learn from one another.
  • You will gain deeper knowledge about pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
  • This care is also covered by your health insurance.
  • Together, you benefit from more collective knowledge (insights, experiences, tips, and support).
