My name is Vera van Elsäcker (1991) and I was one of the first babies to be born in the Flevo hospital in Almere. That is why it is particularly special for me to be able to support (prospective) parents at the same hospital – years later – with the birth of their child.
I have always wanted to practise a profession in which I can make a contribution to healthcare and support people. It took me a while to figure out which profession I wanted to practise in the healthcare sector. That's why I chose to do my A-Levels in secondary school, so I could chose where I wanted to go. During my work experience in fifth year, I worked with a midwife. That week, I also witnessed my first birth! I thought this was so beautiful and special that I was instantly sure that I wanted to become a midwife! In 2013 I graduated as a midwife and was sworn in.
Right now, I can honestly say that I have a dream job! For me, the process of pregnancy and birth is the most beautiful thing there is. The pregnant woman and her partner are at the heart of what I do. I want them to feel listened to and to be able to look back on the arrival of their child with fond memories.
I look forward to supporting you.
